1/c Mary Mergott is from Berlin Maryland. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in May 2021, and reported to the United States Coast Guard Academy in June 2021.

At the Academy, 1/c Mergott is majoring in Government and is now serving as the Regimental Commander. She also founded the Spartan Club and participates in Marathon Club.

This past summer, Mary spent five weeks underway aboard Coast Guard Cutter ALERT (WMEC-630) transiting from San Diego, CA to Cape Canaveral, FL. Additionally, she spent six weeks as an intern with the Coast Guard Office of Emergency Management. In that capacity, she studied emergency management efforts at Coast Guard Headquarters, the Seventh Coast Guard District, and Coast Guard Sector Miami. She also spent time aboard Coast Guard Cutter ROBERT YERED (WPC-1104) and supported Coast Guard Sector Miami’s hurricane exercise.
